More favour afterwards

Proverbs 28:23 KJV — He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

It’s better to tell someone what they need to hear than what they want to hear.

The benefit to you comes later, maybe much later.

But whatever you gain today through “being nice” is much less than what you lose through not telling speaking the truth today.

Speak the truth in love today.

They may not thank you today, but they’ll really thank you tomorrow, or maybe some days after that.

And their response will be worth the wait.

Don’t turn your brain off

Proverbs 27:23 KJV — Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

Be diligent. Be shrewd. Use commonsense. Notice what’s going on. Do the maths. Connect the dots.

God designed you with a brain and He expects you to use it.

Faith isn’t a substitute for thinking. Faith is a conviction that occurs through your thinking but doesn’t rely on it.

Inherit the promises

Hebrews 6:12 KJV — That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Inherit. That’s a verb, an action word.

And yet an inheritance is something that you receive as a gift by virtue of your birth and someone else’s death.

You were born into a family. And when somebody in your family dies, if they named you as an heir, then you receive an inheritance.

But the way you receive an inheritance is through faith and patience.

This isn’t often talked about.

Faith and patience are the two sides of the coin called inheritance.

Inherit the promises.

It’s a verb, i’s active and it’s a choice.

In defence of your idea

Proverbs 25:9 KJV — Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

If you’ve got an idea or a cause that is important to you, then you are going to have to defend it and speak up for it.

Your idea, your cause…your case.

You are the defence attorney for the things that matter to you. And they’re depending on you to speak up for them in the court of man’s opinions and force a judgment that is in your favour.

It’s not going to “just happen” through you shutting your mouth, beaming thoughts and hoping for the best.

God’s with you.

God’s got your back, but He needs your mouth.

Start speaking up for the things that matter to you.

“We lose respect for you”

Proverbs 24:10 KJV — If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

Paraphrase of Bishop TD Jakes:

When some of you are in here crying about a problem you’ve had for a weekend, when we’re praising God while dealing with a problem we’ve had for a lifetime…we lose respect for you.

Adversity isn’t a reason to faint.

Adversity is the stage for your courage and tenacity to be displayed.

Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

Royal expectations

Proverbs 23:1 KJV — When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

“When.”

Not if, but when.

When you sit to eat with a ruler…

The Bible expects you to be invited to dinners with rulers, leaders, and wielders of power and influence.

And when that happens, here’s what you do.

Regardless of what you or others may expect for you, the Word of God has Royal expectations of you.

And that’s because you are royalty. You are a royal priesthood, a child of God, Who is the King of kings.

God’s Letters (“let us”)

Mark 4:35 KJV — And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

Let us make man in our own image. (Genesis 1:26)

Let us pass over unto the other side. (Mark 4:35)

Let us go up at once to possess it. (Num 13:30)

Make sure your letters (“let us”) are the same as God’s letters.

Start with finding a secret place

Proverbs 21:14 KJV — A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

Intimacy and transformation happen in the secret place.

Like soil unlocking the power of any seed planted in it, that’s what the secret place does for any interaction that happens there.

This can work for you or against you. This can be used for evil or for good.

The wayward woman in Proverbs 7 uses it to lead the foolish boy to his own destruction.

Queen Esther uses it to gain favour that lead to Hamaan’s destruction.

If you need intimacy or transformation, start with finding a secret place.

He not They

1 Corinthians 6:17 KJV — But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

He that is joined unto the Lord. He, not they.

This is a huge encouragement.

Because while you are part of the body of Christ, your connection with the Lord is just through your faith in what Jesus has done for you on the cross.

You and Jesus.

He is your point of connection to the body, and not the other way around.

You are one spirit with the Lord.

There’s nobody and nothing between you.

Keep it on the calendar

Proverbs 19:16 KJV — He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

Show me your calendar, and I’ll show you your life.

Keep time in the Word on your Calendar, and you’ll keep it in your heart.

The greater your time investment, the greater the chance of the Word putting down roots in your heart.
