And David heard

1 Samuel 17:23 KJV — And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.

What killed Goliath was the fact that his offensive words were heard by a Giant-killer.

Goliath had said the same words before on other occasions and nothing had happened to him.

But the moment a Giant-killer heard him, that became Goliath’s beginning of the end.

Will you let the Giant-killer inside you hear the words of the Goliaths around you?

The helmet of salvation

Ephesians 6:17 KJV — And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The helmet covers your head, which is the location of your brain, the centre of your thinking.

The helmet is the context within which a solider thinks on the battlefield. As long as they’re engaged in battle, they don’t get to take off that helmet.

We are engaged in battle.

And so all our thoughts about everything are to occur within the context of salvation…your new life in Christ.

Any thought that would separate you from that context – i.e to have you remove your head from the protection of your helmet – is a wile of the enemy.

Every thought happens within the context of salvation.

Keep your head within your helmet.

The Uncaused Cause

Genesis 1:1 KJV — In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

But who created God?

Answer: nobody.

That’s what makes God God.

God is the Uncaused Cause of everything.

God is the start of the chain of causality.

And God, the Uncaused Cause of everything, lives in you.

Wow!

A Psalm of David

Psalm 23:1 KJV — A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

This is my song. This is my meditation. This is my pairing of words with music. I’m singing from my heart.

The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want.

Run your own race

2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV — For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

The 100-metre sprint is not the 5,000-metre steeplechase.

They’re drastically different disciplines which demand drastically different approaches.

Don’t compare yourself with others. Instead, focus on running and completing the race that the Lord has set before you.

Alarm bells

Proverbs 14:7 KJV — Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

When you hear the alarm bell, head for the fire exit.

When you hear the absence of knowledge, head for the exit.

You may still exist in the same space as a foolish person. But you don’t need to present the straightforward version of yourself to the foolish person.

Pay attention to the alarm bells and move accordingly.

God is not a puppet master

Revelation 13:8 KJV — And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

From the moment that the first man, Adam decided to disobey God, our nature was corrupted through us being disconnected from God through sin. Sort of the way a daisy begins to die the moment it is plucked from the ground (its element).

As a result, we live in a world corrupted by sin, inhabited by people who have chosen to reject God, and choose to live life in whatever way seems best to them.

God is not the puppet master who is making you, or me, or anyone else choose to reject His plans and purpose for our lives. We’re the ones doing that.

But the great news is that whilst God isn’t a puppet master, He is a Grandmaster (like the ones you find in Chess, but only far Greater).

God foresaw man choosing to reject Him, which is why He created the plan of sending Jesus to die for us, even before He had created anything.

Upright in the way

Proverbs 13:6 KJV — Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

Upright in the way = Trusting in the finished work of Jesus.

Our righteousness in the new covenant is not based on what we do, but is based on what Jesus has already done for us.

Don’t try to earn what God has given as a free gift.

Be strengthened

2 Timothy 2:1 KJV — Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Let yourself be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

There is strength and provision available in your spirit.

So by faith, decide to let yourself be strengthened.

The armour of God

Ephesians 6:11 KJV — Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

It’s the armour of God, as in God’s armour.

But also, the armour is God.

You are clothe yourself with the whole revelation of God that you have.

The revelation that you have of God through the Word is what covers you and arms you for battle.

You’ve got it. But you need to wrap yourself – Bury yourself – within the whole revelation of God.

When your identity is hidden within the revelation of God, you’re not available to be exposed to the wiles of the devil.
