But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. – Daniel 3:18
Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful king in the world, ruling over Babylon, the most powerful empire of the world.
And yet, 3 friends refused to bow to his demands.
Not because they had it figured out, or even because they had a guarantee that God would bail them out.
They refused to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar because they had already bowed to God’s supremacy in their life.
And that simple refusal to be “conformed to the pattern of this world” (Romans 12:2) triggered a Divine intervention that sparked a fire that we’re still being impacted by today.
Remember: resistance is fertile, not futile.
Don’t worry about the might of your oppressors.
Instead, start by remembering who you’ve already bowed the knee to on the inside…and you’ll find yourself unable to bow to the might of those on the outside.
