Big Ben and the Statue of Liberty

Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: – Proverbs 8:5

Big Ben and the Statue of Liberty are both famous tourist attractions.

They are each over 130 years old.

And they are 3,462 miles apart.

If you go to Big Ben, you are no where near the Statue of Liberty.

And if you try to get to the Statue of Liberty from Big Ben, you’ll need to spend time, money and energy in traveling across the Atlantic Ocean, and contending with customs and immigration officials checking your paperwork.

You can’t accidentally go from Big Ben to the Statue of Liberty. You can only do it deliberately.

And the same can be true of the way you spend your time and live the life you’ve been given.

The way.

Each day you get to choose the way you will navigate through life.

And the wisdom from this Proverb is to commit to the ways that are far away from “the strange woman”.

Strange as in: not of your covenant…not of that which you have committed to.

So the Olympic athlete chooses the way on the menu that leads far away from high cholesterol and empty calories.

The writer chooses the way that leads far away from distractions and places to hide from sitting down to write.

President Barack Obama chooses the way that leads far away from wasting time deciding what he is going to wear each day.

The pregnant mother chooses the way that leads far away from anything that will harm the healthy development and birth of her baby.

Choose the way that is line with what you have already committed to.

And if the way you’re on is one that goes “down to death” (Proverbs 5:5)…change to one that leads to life.

And once you’re on the path to life, you’ll find that you are as far away from that which would hurt you…as Big Ben is from the Statue of Liberty.
