The Job test

Whatever the activity in which you engage, do it with all your ability, because there is no work, no planning, no learning, and no wisdom in the next world where you’re going. – Ecclesiastes 9:10

Job.

For some, that’s a “task, a piece of work, a paid position of regular employment.”

For others, Job is a person who was severely tested over a 9-month period…losing everything except his integrity…and emerged from the testing with twice as much as he had before.

Job the task…or Job the person?

Viewing the Job as being about the task or paid position is the reason why many obsess over finding their “Dream Job” or “getting paid to do what they love”.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But the issue is that finding the “perfect something” shifts the power from your hands into the hands of the ever elusive and ethereal “somebody else”.

A much better posture is to realise that the Job isn’t really about the task or the position. Instead it’s about the person doing it…you.

Like adding a drop of Ribena concentrate to a glass of cool clear water, infusing your real self into anything you’re involved with will instantly flavour it…with the awesome essence of you.

That’s why a teenage Gary Vaynerchuk can find himself cast down from the mountain of his entrepreneurial exploits into the dungeon of the family business…and within a few years transform that “prison” into a platform to express his true personality.

The same is true for you.

What you carry within you is too brilliant to be quenched by the mediocrity they keep heaping on you.

It’s unquenchable.

Once you realise that the power has been placed in you – and not in your circumstances – you can have the boldness to shift your posture.

So instead of trying to endlessly resist the confines of where you are…try cheerfully leaning into it with the full force and essence of who you really are, and see what happens.

You’ll be amazed and delighted by how things change in your favour.
