What’s holding you back?

Luke 24:16 KJV — But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

Answer: not God.

This verse happens in the context of Jesus seeking out the two disciples on the road to Emmaus and initiating a conversation. He goes on to explain to them from all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself (Luke 24:27) He continues this revelation of who He is by responding to their invitation to break bread with them, during which time their eyes were opened.

But during all of this time, God was not the one keeping their eyes holden.

In Luke 24:17, Jesus asks the disciples why they’re feeling sad. Eight verses later, He describes them as being “fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken (Luke 24:25).

Since the sadness was merely the result of them being slow of heart to believe all that God had said, what was holding these disciples was unbelief.

Jesus dealt with it using all the Scriptures and through fellowship with Himself.

The result was that their eyes were opened and Jesus disappeared from where they were…in order to have fellowship with these two in the place they needed to be.

Despite what your senses are telling you, dare to defy them by believing what God said, and you’ll be amazed at who and what is revealed to you.
