But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day. – Deuteronomy 4:4
Cleave.
Cling to.
Stick to.
Adhere strongly to.
Remain true to.
Be faithful to.
Become very strongly involved with or emotionally attached to (someone).
That’s the posture you need to have towards your relationship with God.
Don’t be casual about it and don’t take it for granted, especially because you’re born again and under a new Covenant.
It’s said that familiarity breeds contempt, and contempt can cause you to disregard and shut yourself out of the amazing blessings God has given you.
The antidote is to cleave to God.
Cleave to Him, cleave to His word and refuse to be casual about Him.
It isn’t considered cool to cleave to God. In fact, it’s been stigmatized by being thrown into the same box as “fanaticism”.
Be that as it may, you don’t have to conform to the patterns you see playing out around you.
Instead, you can be transformed by quietly committing to cleave to God by cleaving to His word.
This posture is why you will still be alive and thriving even when others aren’t.
