And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. – Romans 12:2
The impulse to conform is an invitation for you to transform.
The urge to stay in bed is an invitation for you to get out of bed and do a pushup.
The allure of the icecream tub in your freezer is an invitation for you to grab a banana from the fruit bowl.
The temptation to veg in front of the TV is an opportunity to grab your notebook and write another paragraph of your novel.
We live in a world that is constantly broadcasting signals and impulses urging us to fit in, conform and be like everyone else.
And the amazing opportunity we have is to flip these impulses to conform into invitations to transform.
So when you feel like fitting in, ask “how can I stand out?”
When you feel like giving up, ask “how can I take another step?”
When you feel the pressure to tone things down, ask “how can I turn things up?”
Do this with wisdom and listening to the Holy Spirit.
But in general, the impulse to conform is special invitation and opportunity for you to transform.
