The wisdom of soap

For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yetthine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD. – Jeremiah 2:22

Wash your hands with soap.

That was the advice given to fellow Doctors by Ignaz Semelweis in 1847.

He was ridiculed and thrown into a mental institute by his peers for such a ridiculous line of thinking.

Years later, he was vindicated by people like Joseph Lister who discovered that diseases were spread by germs. Germs that could be killed using antiseptic substances.

And yet, way back in 627BC, the prophet Jeremiah recorded a statement in Scripture that would have saved millions of lives if heeded:

For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yetthine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

In the midst of a rebuke, God revealed the wisdom of washing with nitre and soap.

In the midst of a commentary on the wicked man, God reveals this principle: your life is heading in the direction of your most dominant thoughts. (Proverbs 23:7)

And in the midst of us being too busy to pay attention…we’re neglecting gems of wisdom that are quietly waiting for us to notice their true worth.

God’s wisdom is greater than man’s wisdom. He’s got great things to show you. So don’t miss out on the wisdom of soap…and other things that you might have been overlooking.

The simple act of washing hands in hospitals started as a recommendation in 1847 by Dr Ignaz
