2 kinds of tension problems

But the land could not support both Abram and Lot with all their flocks and herds living so close together. – Gen 13:6

Too much tension or not nearly enough tension.

Those are the two types of tension “problems”.

If you’re negotiating a peace treaty between two volatile parties, you’re probably facing the “too much” problem.

And if you’re singing a song, telling a story or giving a speech…it’s likely you’re dancing at the edge of being brave enough to dare to put more cowbell, more tension in the work you’re creating.

The solution to both problems is one word:

Space.

Juxtapose two different ideas or concepts or people with just a hair’s breadth between them, and voila, instant tension.

Take a breath, step back, sleep on the decision, and allow room for a different perspective…and suddenly the tension is resolved.

When it comes to tension, check how you’re using the space.
