Whose am I?

Have you forgotten that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you, and that you are not the owner of your own body? You have been bought, and at what a price! Therefore bring glory to God both in your body and your spirit, for they both belong to him. – 1  Corinthians 6:19-20

“Who am I?” is the usual question.

And “who am I?” leads us down the rabbit holes of me, myself and I, where every concern, aspiration, criticism and obsession is primarily to do with “me”.

I’m fat, I’m thin, I’m sad, I’m happy, I’m miserable, I’m fulfilled, I’m hungry, I’m thirsty,  I’m I’m I’m I’m, me me me me, my my my my etc

But as useful as it can be to ask about the who, what if it’s the wrong question?

What if we added two letters to that who?

Not only would we end up with a  whole new word, but we could end up birthing a whole new worldview…similar to the way that somebody transformed our relationship with “fat food” by adding an “s” to call it fast food.

Switching from who to whose causes you to enter into a Universe that does not revolve around you.

Your appearance, your history, your gifts, your “problems”, your desires, your struggles…all of them shift from being monuments for you to worship, to simply characters, props,  and costumes in a play that started long before you got here.

The answer to this question may seem obvious to you (or those around you), and nor worth addressing.

But before you slam the door on it and send it back out into the cold, invite it in to sit with you for 10 minutes, a cup of coffee and some conversation.

Whose am I?

Ponder the question, and if you’re daring, invite it to come spend the day with you and be a part of today’s routine…and see how the question of “whose” changes your posture, attitude and actions in your life.

So if you’re up for the adventure, here’s the question again:

Whose are you?
