And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. – Genesis 1:2
The Hebrew word for darkness is the same word for obscurity.
ChĂ´sek.
“Darkness, obscurity and secret place”.
Right from the beginning, God shows a propensity for creating things in the dark, in obscurity.
Babies grow in an enclosed womb.
Seeds germinate underground.
Birds hatch out of eggs.
Sharks swim in the depths of the ocean.
Israel is birthed out of an old barren couple.
Joseph the Prince of Egypt is developed in the obscurity of the pit, the house of Potiphar and the prison, with all their attendant dramas.
David the King of Israel is developed in the obscurity of looking after sheep in the wilderness.
All throughout Scripture, we see God developing and creating things in the darkroom of obscurity.
The same is true for you.
Your life is not your own.
And because you’re born again, you have a Covenant with God where He has promised to live in you, direct your steps and “never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
This means that you are never by yourself in any situation.
And this means that when you find yourself in the dark, you have the assurance of being with the One who specialises in turning a dark place into a darkroom…to develop you into the picture He had in mind.
Are you in the dark, or are you in the darkroom?
