Sheep résumé

And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: – 1 Samuel 17:34

Your résumé isn’t cheap…it’s sheep.

It doesn’t look anything like the impressive and illustrious as that of the Giants around you.

They’ve been doing this since before you were born.

They’ve got the qualifications.

They’ve got the experience.

They’ve got the height advantage, weight advantage, skill advantage.

They’ve got the approval, respect and full backing of the people.

What do you have that could possibly make even the slightest difference in a head to head with these Giants?

One thing: a sheep résumé.

It didn’t look like much to those on the outside. But you know what it took to take care of your sheep and keep them safe.

Day in and day out.

You remember the sound your lamb made when the the lion snatched her from the flock.

You remember racing after the lion, heart pounding, and in one motion snatching a stone from the ground and hurtling it towards the skull of the lion with your sling.

You remember the sound the lion made when his body fell to earth.

You remember carefully pulling your lamb out from between his glistening jaws and cuddling her blood stained wool against your chest.

You remember turning at the roar of the lion arising to attack you and your beloved lamb.

Barely a few feet between you.

You remember placing your lamb behind you, rushing straight towards the lion, and grabbing him by the mane.

You remember the look in his eyes.

The startling realization that this was no shepherd.

This was a Great Lion disguised as a shepherd.

You remember doing all of this again when a bear took one of your lambs.

No armour. No entourage. No sword, shield or spear. No army backing you up.

Just you, the lion, the bear…and your knowledge of the Covenant you have with God.

Whether you’re raising your kids, doing the dishes, cleaning the toilets, sweeping the streets…don’t be intimidated by the impressive Giants who make your accomplishments and experiences feel trivial and cheap.

They’re not cheap…they’re sheep.

A microcosm of the greatness that is being developed within you.
