The slothful <\/span><\/span>man<\/i> <\/span>saith, <\/span><\/span>There is<\/i> <\/span>a lion in the way; a lion <\/span><\/span>is<\/i> <\/span>in the streets.<\/span> – Proverbs 26:13<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I used to think that this Proverb was about a lazy man making up a story about why he shouldn’t get out of bed.<\/p>\n

But there’s a lion in the street.<\/i><\/p>\n

Sure…<\/i><\/p>\n

But today, this verse popped into my head in a new light, and I realised something.<\/p>\n

The character in this verse is lazy…not a liar.<\/p>\n

He’s not telling a lie, he’s stating a fact and using it as a reason for why he can’t do what he’s supposed to.<\/p>\n

The slothful man calls this an excuse. Scripture calls this being lazy.<\/p>\n

Now this isn’t about being condemned or about the emotional associations with the word lazy.<\/p>\n

Instead it’s about settling something up front: There is <\/i>a lion in the street.<\/p>\n

There is something vicious, unrelenting and predatory out there that wants to scare you into never stepping out of your front door, let alone getting out of bed.<\/p>\n

There are all sorts of reasons why you can’t or you didn’t or you woulda\/coulda\/shoulda done it, but…<\/i><\/p>\n

There is a lion in the street.<\/p>\n

It’s not your fault that he’s there, but it is your responsibility to deal with it.<\/p>\n

And guess what?<\/p>\n

You’re more powerful than you realise.<\/p>\n

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are made in the image and likeness of the Creator of the Universe.<\/p>\n

You are a Child of God. You are more than a conqueror through Him who loved you. God has given His angels charge over you. The Angel of the Lord is encamped around you.<\/p>\n

You are the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. You are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. You have the mind of Christ.<\/p>\n

Death and life are in the power of your <\/i>tongue. All of God’s promises to you are yes and Amen. You have a covenant with God. The fullness of God dwells in your body.<\/p>\n

When you speak to anything and don’t doubt in your heart, you will have whatever you say. You are God’s awesome masterpiece.<\/p>\n

And God loves you.<\/p>\n

So while you’re busy lying in bed watching Spanish Telemundo reruns of E<\/i>l Le\u00f3n en la calle<\/i><\/span> <\/i>(The Lion in The Street)
\n…those problems, threats and obstacles are scared to death of: <\/i>El Cazador en la cama<\/i><\/span> (The Hunter in the bed).<\/p>\n

The lion is more afraid of you than you are of it. So get out of bed, get dressed and go out to give that lion the fright of its life.<\/p>\n
