Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. – Colossians 3:16

The great news about the Gospel is that it is all about God working in you to make you who He created you to be.

It’s not about your efforts, your deeds, your good intentions or your ability. It’s all about Him working in you “both to will and to do according to His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)

And since John 1:1 let’s us know that the Word is God, the message of the Gospel is simply this: let the Word do the work.

When you hear the Word being preached, or you read the Word from your Bible, receive it and let it do what it was sent to do.

Don’t get in its way through trying to figure out how it is going to accomplish the things it says it wants to do; just allow it access and allow it to go to work in your life.

The hardest part of all of this is the simple action of “letting go and letting God.”

That’s because this action triggers a specific line of automatic responses from the strongholds that have been built up in our minds over the years:

do you mean you’re not going to do anything? Are you telling me that I should just be lazy? Don’t be ridiculous; am I just going to lie down in my bed and sleep while God does all the work?

What these responses reveal is a lack of understanding of the way God works…as well as a subscription to the factory mentality of the last century.

Going back to Philippians 2:13: For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to desire and to work out His good purpose.

Here we see that your desire to work and you actually doing the work are byproducts of God first working in you.

Rather than tell you what to do and micromanage you to do it, God goes to work into transforming you from the inside out. He gives you the desire to do what He has purposed for you to do, He also gives you the ability, and then the end result is that you instinctively throw yourself into doing the works that were prepared beforehand for you to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

So don’t force it, and don’t fret. You will do everything you were created to do. Just abide in the Word, and dare to let the Word do the work in you…and you will not be put to shame. (Psalm 25:3)
