Know your place

As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place. – Proverbs 27:9

Know your place.

Your place, not theirs.

Their place, when they tell you to “know your place”, or try to castigated you by saying “who do you think you are?” is a place bounded by the limits of their understanding.

Their place is the box they put you in that conforms to their expectations for you.

But your place, like the bird with the nest, is the place where the real you gets to take a break from battling the storms in the sky.

Your place is the place where you get to be fully yourself.

Your place is the place where you get to lay your dreams to bed each night, hidden away from the keen eyes of predators and hunters, given space to grow, hatch, grow and then find their wings so they can take to the skies in search of distant dreamed-of lands.

Know your place…and don’t ever wander away from it.
