I’m not even supposed to be telling you this. But when men are growing up and are reading about Batman, Spiderman, Superman…these aren’t fantasies. These are options.This is the deep inner secret truth of the male mind. – Jerry Seinfeld
The punchline of today’s blog post is this: you are a Superhero.
A Superhero like Superman, Spiderman, Green Lantern, The Hulk, Mystique, Professor Xavier, Wolverine…or any of the many other fictional shadows of spiritual realities.
In fact, the Superhero I’ve been meditating on over the last day or so in conjunction with Matthew 5:14 is the character known as The Flash.
The Flash is a comic book hero whose superpower is being able to run and move really, really fast. In some accounts he’s been shown to move faster than the speed of light. And the source of his supernatural speed is his connection to an extra-dimensional energy field known as the Speed Force.
Those with access to the Speed Force can use a large number of abilities, usually revolving around speed, including: superhuman endurance, accelerated metabolism, increased and accelerated perceptions, accelerated healing, decelerated aging, Speed Force aura, supercharged brain activity, life force stealing, some degree of enhanced strength, vortex creation, phasing, Speed stealing, infinite mass punch, and others.
So when Jesus says “you are the light of the world”, one of the literal implications of this statement is that you are not a ‘normal’ powerless human being.
And the reason is because of the true nature of the entity called ‘light’.
Now the Religious “kumbah yah”/”this little light of mine” definition is vague, innocuous, and founded on a metaphorical and carnal translation of Jesus’ words.
But when Jesus says that you are the light of the world, He’s saying that you are “electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength, whether visible or not”.
He’s saying that you are both visible and invisible.
He’s saying that you are both particle and wave, at the same time.
He’s saying that you are that which can travel 186,000 miles per second across the vacuum of space.
He’s saying you are sunlight, rainbow and flashlight…as well as proton, electron and photon. In other words, there’s more to you than meets the natural eye.
Now if all this is fiction/myth/religious fluff to make us feel better, then life moves on as normal. Drink your tea, eat your biscuit, head out into the normal day as a normal human being.
But if any of this is even remotely true, then the implications for you and the world around you are tremendous.
Because simply knowing that you are the light of the world…suddenly gives you access to Superhero options and supernatural powers for facing the villains and events in front of you.
