Dead men don’t…

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:11

…pay taxes, vote, fall in love, get cold, get frustrated, travel, learn, make mistakes, make progress, innovate, stand in line at the supermarket to buy groceries, get Covid, binge watch Netflix, meditate, argue, exercise, tie shoelaces, play Ping Pong, laugh, cry, hurt, feel…

Dead men don’t do any of these things. They can’t, because they are dead. The body might be lying still on the hospital bed, but one look in the eyes tells you that the person is no longer with us. They’re elsewhere. They’re not here. They can’t take part in the day to day experience that we call being alive.

And that’s exactly how it is for you.

The moment you became born again, you died to sin. Your spirit became disconnected from the corruption and consequence of being disconnected from God. Everything that came into the world through being disconnected from God…you died to that.

You don’t have to take part in sickness, poverty, abandonment, hopelessness, depression, trauma…anything that is the result of sin operating in the world. You can’t. You’re dead to it.

Understanding this is the first step towards experiencing it.
