Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: – 2 Samuel 7:8
You’re not invited.
In fact, nobody’s even thinking about you.
You’re stuck in the sheepcote.
Your days are a continual exercise in dipping your bucket into the wellspring of your potential…only to pour it out into the trough to be slopped over by the sheep, goats and birds of the air.
You are a leader stuck following sheep.
You’re killing lions, tigers and bears to protect your “few sheep” that nobody rates and wouldn’t miss if they were gone.
Remarkable feats of courage obscured by the grand vista of the unremarkable, endless chores of the day.
Rinse repeat.
You are in the sheepcote.
You are not invited to the party…but that doesn’t mean you won’t get to go.
The God who sees you behind the sheep…the God who sees your heart…knows how to get you to the next level you feel called to.
And when you get there, remember it’s not about the party.
It’s about the quiet continuous fellowship you had with God when nobody was watching.
