Resistance is fertile

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – James 4:7

Resist.

To set oneself against, to withstand, stand against, oppose.

All of the gains in your life can be found in the fertile soil of resistance.

Sit ups, planks, keeping your bum in the seat to write, cooking without salt, reaching for an apple instead of a chocolate bar, ignoring the seductive allure of social media, holding your tongue, refusing to let your heart be troubled, being generous, telling the truth, being kind…

These are all acts of resistance. These are acts that oppose the powerful forces of compliance and convenience that are pulling on you 24/7.

Like the Borg, they would have you believe that it’s only a matter of time before you cave in, so you might as well give in now.

They need you to believe that, because they are terrified of you expressing the potential you carry within you.

And you express that potential by seeking out the tension and discomfort that comes from refusing to be conformed to this world.

Resistance isn’t futile.

Resistance is fertile.
