And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. – Numbers 13:33
The Elephant in the room isn’t “the problem or risk that nobody wants to discuss”.
No. That’s just a problem or risk that nobody wants to discuss…and you need to.
But the real Elephant in the room, is the God whom you’re too afraid Or embarrassed or feeling let down by to acknowledge or factor into your discussion.
Yes, there are giants. Yes, there are bills to be paid. Yes, your body is in pain and the doctors aren’t giving you a good report.
But can we please talk about the Elephant in the room?
The God who brought you out of Egypt, plagued Pharoah, drowned his army in the Red Sea, led you and fed you in the wilderness…
The God who has watched over you, helped you and sustained you on more than one occasion.
The God who is a very present help in trouble and is mighty to save.
Can we please talk about that Elephant?
Here’s the deception.
You’re being tricked into using past disappointments…times when God “didn’t show up”…to get you to talk about the problem as if you didn’t have a God who loves you, gave His life for you and will never leave you not forsake you.
Don’t fall for it.
Let God be true and every man a liar.
Talk about the Elephant…The real Elephant.
Talk about the amazing things God has done for people through Scripture.
Talk about the woman with the issue of blood who was healed by touching Jesus and boast that “that’s the God who lives inside me”.
Talk to your giants, mountains and problems about the size of the Elephant on whose back you sit (Ephesians 2:6)
He weighs over 10,000 pounds. He’s over 7 feet tall with tusks made of the sharpest ivory that He can skewer you like a kebab. He’s so big He can snap you like a toothpick. That’s the Elephant I’ve got in my corner. You may look like giants up close, but when I remember that I’m supposed to be always be sitting on His back, you look like tiny grasshoppers to me.
If God be for us, who can be against us.
This isn’t religion, it’s a practical reality with real-world implications.
So when you face a problem or challenge or threat, please don’t ignore it or put your head in the sand.
Instead, start talking about the real Elephant in the room…God…and dare to address the challenge from the right position.
Sitting on the back of the real Elephant in the room.
