Start with delight

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. – Psalm 1:2

Between the “Blessed is the man” promise of Psalm 1:1 and the “meditate day and night” instruction of Psalm 1:2 is a word that is easy to miss:

Delight.

Delight means to take pleasure in. It’s an intentional deliberate choice, and not something that just happens.

Delight is different from enjoyment (which can be accidental or passive).

The blessed man of Psalm 1 doesn’t enjoy the Word of God, he intentionally delights himself in it.

And the result of choosing to delight himself in it, is that he finds himself meditating in it day and night.

So before you jump right into the disciplines of what you think you need to do to get a result…start with choosing to delight.

And yes, delight is a choice.
