Mary’s sister

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. – John 19:25

Mary was the virgin who got pregnant, without “knowing a man”.

Mary was married to Joseph.

Mary had at least 6 children. Jesus, James, Joses, Judas, Simon, and Jesus’s sisters.(Matthew 13:55-56)

And Mary…had a sister.

Maybe she was called Mary the wife of Cleophas, or perhaps she had a different name.

The point is that Mary-the-mother-of-Jesus’s story occurred in the context of her family and cultural surroundings.

And even though she had a sister, and Joseph had 11 brothers and Daniel had 3 friends…there was something specific that God wanted to do with Mary that He didn’t do with her sister.

God knows who you are and where you are.

And yes, He really wants to use you…and not the others whom you think arendrendndre better suited for the job.
