Holy, Holy, Holy

And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. – Revelation 4:8

A powerful hymn with beautiful versions performed by Sufjan Stevens as well as many, many, others.

Holy, Holy, Holy…what does the word “Holy” even mean?

Strong’s Concordance says it’s derived from the Greek word Hàgos.

Sacred…an awful thing.

Awful as in: inspiring reverential wonder or fear.

We see this in the intense fascination evoked by witnessing something extremely gruesome and abhorrent.

In these is a mere glimmer of how awe-inspiring the Lord is. He is something else. He is awesome and resplendent.

He is just…Holy, Holy, Holy.
