After the earthquake there came fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper. 13 As soon as Elijah heard it, he covered his face in his mantle, went outside, and stood at the entrance to the cave. And there a voice spoke to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” – 1 Kings 19:12-13
Learn to master and explore the depths of quiet. For many people this is largely unexplored territory.
Elijah the mighty prophet had a deep respect for the whisper he heard after being unmoved by the earthquake and the fire. There was something about that whisper that he associated with the Lord.
Not all whispers are the Lord and our God is a consuming fire.
But learn to respect and explore the depths of quiet…The subtle almost imperceptible impressions that you brush aside because they don’t scream with urgency.
That’s the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
And really, a whisper is a relative concept just like the twinkling of distant stars.
It’s only a whisper to those who are far away. But to those whose ears are kissed by the mouth that speaks, a whisper is the pitch and frequency of intimacy.
Get closer to the Voice and listen for the whispers.
They’re much more important than you think.
